Divine Feedback (Listen to your Call)

“Listening” has become a mainstream idea as people are dialing into connecting deeper with others, while simultaneously the complexity of conversations has increased (as the complexity of the world has too)! This has led to a cliché within the precious idea of “listening.” Even phrases from ancient wisdom – Stoicism – “two ears to listen, and one to speak” can garner eye-rolls from the audience.

However, let me take this a step further than what is casually spoken about this action, and how we all have a choice to activate “our ears” within ourselves, our environment, our jobs, and our surrounding social groups.

There certainly are levels to “listening intently;” I’d like to expand specifically on the deeper levels more-so within ourselves and from our environment. A lot of talk around “listening skills” is relating to conversations with others (within our work/social groups) – which to me, is quite common sense.

Now, the more difficult sect of listening is within ourselves. The reason this is a whole higher level of listening is because it requires asking the right questions. This may sound counter-intuitive, but to actually hear truth we must speak truth – by asking God (and the universe) the right questions. From here, we must truly listen even if what we hear is uncomfortable, will bring challenges and difficulty, or is “outside the box” of our common daily thought processes. This is especially important to do, to be able to sit with discomfort and NOT look to escape or bury the truth.

For example, during an epic bachelor trip with my sway older brother Grant, some great conversations came up (specifically in the hot tub – why is it always in the hot tub)?! Anyway, one of the bros there was wrestling with this uncomfortable feeling/thought about not being able to be himself in day-to-day life. He mentioned he was able to live-up to 20% of his real self, and was absolutely NOT okay with this fact. In this state of mind, he came to me asking for some reasons as to why this is, where I come from, and how to work on this. I chose to keep this high-level (above any practical “therapy talk”) and encouraged him to really LISTEN to where these uncomfortable feelings/thoughts are coming from. I went further and advised him to ask for guidance from God – and REALLY doing so in a humble way of genuine desire – not some half-baked prayer on the wall one never actually looks at/cares about. From a genuine standpoint of a humble request for guidance, the listening part becomes absolutely HUGE because without slowing down and hearing what divine feedback rises, this has been all for nothing. This part of listening is fundamental for truth to be heard, growth to be had, and potential life-changing challenges to overcome!

Finally, when the truth rises, don’t EVER be afraid to do what needs to be done – to take action from the basis of this divine feedback and take on whatever challenge or adjustment is needed. This is the way to walk with God and to leave no rocks unturned – to live fully, in all ways.

Ask the right questions (with humility), receive divine feedback, and live the truth fully – as that is listening to your call.

Weekly Prompt (Like Lifting Weights, but for your brain):

What questions can you ask yourself to better understand your internal compass of direction to your “true north?” What attention can I give to this topic to “walk with God?”
