Either is All
They are one
Pathways joined
At the center point
The magnetic core
Authentic existence…
Undeniable,
secretly inevitable,
It is truly incredible
Step back
And watch it unfold!
Either is All
In today’s world, there really is so much information being thrown at us. It’s almost to the point of infinite information - in every direction. It comes through our friends/family, experiences, challenges, highs and lows man, in all ways. It’s blessed and beautiful, but can also distract us and take us any way our minds allow it.
That’s why I’ve been learning that deep focus, then welcoming obsession (yes I used this word) to follow WHERE that focus goes - and backing it with consistent movement is the way forward. For without this push, we will be swallowed away from the day-to-day distractions and noise of the world. As such, the world is up for grabs of those who can harness the power within, focus on it (even rejecting opinions from others who do not know your path) and to lead forward with integrity and our truth.
It sounds “out there” - but here me out. Let’s play out an exercise: what if we followed every spontaneous hobby/activity that we found from say - our work, our friends, the internet (endless info), etc.? Wouldn’t we eventually just have a bunch of hobbies, but no discernment in which may actually bring us deep work and fulfillment? If you were to actually play out this game, and be like “yes man” Jim Carrey movie; and then reflect months back - wouldn’t it be overwhelming to actually know which activity brought the most genuine flow-state fulfillment? Maybe you’d have an idea when reflecting, but the overload of options and sources of information would be quite confusing.
This is why I believe in simplicity - which leads to real focus - leading to deep work. We can simplify things through intentional reflection, brutal honesty, and then confidence to dive in our work. Let’s say for example - this “yes man” example above. Maybe we pickup pickleball, golf, painting with our partner, journaling, hiking/nature walks, attending live music events, and going to a mixer for entrepreneurs. Okay - this is quite a bit! Good work. Now, instead of just floating around forever (one hobby to the next) - let’s ask ourselves… which one of these did I find the flow state naturally? Which one led to MORE openness, creativity, and discovery - “on a whim?” For example, maybe going on hikes, the flowers and shrubbery were particularly interesting (like my Molly girly loves these things)! Now, what if this means to look deeper into how flowers actually grow, and maybe this eventually leads to being a professional gardener? Humor the quick leap to a profession, but this is actually how life works (in my opinion).
This is how I see simplicity fundamentally working - bending it to your will and making it squeeze out the real juice from experience. Then, from there - let’s focus, dial-in, and start moving that direction. My good friend and life mentor, David Leifeste, coins this discovery as the “scavenger hunt of life.” As you may know, this game relies on following clues. Now, it’s up to us - to listen to them. And from here - ooh I get excited - is where we find God and purpose that is built within our special (and unique) being.
Weekly Prompt (Like Lifting Weights, but for your brain):
What hobbies/activities have you been involved in recently that has led to a natural flow-state? What does this say about this outing for you? Have you seen patterns with this activity relating to others?
