Roaring river rolls
Like the truth that unfolds
Yet the future remains untold
But we must never foreclose..
Eyes always open
Ready to pivot
It’s not what we thought
Nor, what we plot
No matter - it is the fairest spot
Where we transcend any pesky clot
And heal any undone rot
Climb up to our heavenly cot -
Home! Resides eternally
In the world’s people
The truest of life’s gifts
Lives here, in this grounded staple.

Replenish your Waters
When the current is going against you, how do you keep on? Is there some “secret” strategy to pull through - like working out, going fishing, or reading a book? Well, what I’ve found is there is no “perfect” answer! Everyone knows the phrase, “different strokes for different folks” – but what about “different ways of being to fully seeing?” (Made this up on the spot, you tell me if this is fire or not)!
The complexity of our humanity (or human experience) is unmatched. At the deep fundamental level, we are simply energy beings that require a variety of activity to sustain our best work and fulfillment (happiness). When stagnation settles in, we begin to draw thin and can fail the battle within! This is not the ideal spin that rewards a lightful grin.
Instead, we must continue our adventurous journey to cultivate new, fresh experiences to replenish our waters with movement – like the life-giving oxygen that swirls in the running rivers. This was always the case, and will always be! Just because technology has ingrained in the culture (as this pseudo-connection fabricated via social media) - doesn’t change shit, in reality. We still are branches of the same tree, special stardust reincarnated from the big bang, living organisms infused by the Source.
Circling back to the initial question starting this segment – how to pull through when the current is going against you? Well, there are certainly outlets to engage (flow-state powered ones are the best). For me, basketball cures all. I always leave lighter, healthier, and more refreshed when I ball. You likely have something similar to dive in and wash yourself clean! There is no doubt that this is very important.
However, what I’m learning through discovery (writing included) is that the crown jewel composing the throne above all is (simply) the folks that ride with you. Taking a quick glance at the world’s problems at a high level mirrors this truth. Human connection is the unfounded substance absolutely necessary to brew the juiciest juice. As such, consistent movement within your environment (wherever you are) must be reinforced with true genuine intentions to connect and meet others.
Quite frequently, the opportunity to connect with someone new will counteract with the “plan of the day.” When this happens, I challenge you to willingly leave it behind with grace and humility. It’s okay, the plan got you here (to new opportunity) – now drop it with peace and look upward to potential right in front of you.

This happened to Molly and me this past weekend while traversing for a nature bath in Amalia (Costilla County), New Mexico. There is a beautiful slice in-and-up into this mountain range basically on the border of Colorado. We decided to bounce over here because Red River is absolutely ballooned from tourist season, and wanted to escape the crowds and boisterous Main Street. Immediately upon arrival we feel lighter, happier, and clearer in spirit as the natural beauty surrounds us, and there was even some grass by the river! Grass does not take too kindly to the dry-air of New Mexico, let me tell ya.
What happened next was special. The first vehicle we drove past looking to find a spot by the river, was Larry Sanchez – the most giving, special connector in Questa/Red River. Him and I have been connecting and building a bond that was built from the foundation left behind from my Father’s death – as he had earned upmost respect from Larry on how he treated him. Dad would even give Larry a blank check and let him fill out the payment, as a sign of utmost trust and respect for Larry – and thus reciprocated in brotherhood. Well, now I have stepped into these shoes and continued building a relationship of trust and respect.
This generational friendship rewarded a new opportunity – to join Larry and his new neighbor in Questa, Sergio Guerrero. When we walked over just to say hi (and not impose on their space) they instantly asked “want a beer?” and we started chatting it up with Sergio! The ensuing moment naturally developed to us moving our vehicle over, and had an epic river-kickback while their kids fished, Stanlee ran around like a DOG, and we got to relax and have some brews with this family-oriented Spanish people. It’s also worth noting that Sergio’s son, came up and introduced himself immediately as a sign of respect (as I, his elder).
Here they are! Great people who immediately opened up their space for us to pleasantly join them.
It goes further. While we were vibing and sharing quality time, we happened to be talking a lot about Sergio’s new property in Questa (farm-style house with multiple acres). Molly and I are very interested in this lifestyle, and Sergio was happy to fill us in on every detail. His sheep, chickens, fruit trees (pear, cherry, apple) + other crops, and his new pond he built for his kids to fish! The excitement and positive energy was swirling upward, which lead to Sergio asking us if we’d like to come see his home. Of course!! We followed them back to Questa, Sergio took us on the WHOLE tour and shared some more beers to quality conversation.
It’s also worth sharing here that Sergio was born in Mexico, got to Texas at 18 and worked hard at re-modeling/building for 20 years there before making it to here in New Mexico, now building his own farm-house from the humble start of a single old trailer home on a couple acres. He now has built his own chicken coop, goat/sheep house, planted crops and used his creek to naturally water it, built his own pond to fish (this is just outside)! He’s also built a fully custom wood-finished kitchen, with its own super-nice pantry, and an elegant upstairs fully-decked out movie theatre room that looks like a page out of a mansion. Incredible work, and he’s still building more with the next structure his “man-cave” grill/billiards bros room, and I’m sure he’ll be doing more after that.
Intentional movement, open minds and hearts leads to special experiences like these. Everyone is readily available for them, just have to listen and meet people where they are – and then be rewarded with new friends, experiences, knowledge, and ultimately… replenishing your waters.
