When we let go

Of the envious future

The world opens its door

Reaching out, not to ignore

But to truly adore

Each & every echoing roar.

Revealing energy all around

For it craves to be found

Go! discover, uncover –

That which is profound!

It may seem underground

But if you lift up that frown

It shall descend and come down

And bless you

As the source – knows no bounds.

Ride your Bike

Do you ever stop and wonder how we’ve gotten so deep in the advancement of technology, how we use it, and how it affects our daily lives in so many ways? Let’s take it a step further – have you noticed how this technology (mainly the phones) is starting to cause more harm – than good? For example, how public spaces have less joy and spontaneous fun, and more overall – just quiet (dead energy)?

It’s so easy now to always be thinking about the next thing. To be distracted – and close our lens to the world all around us. And, in doing so, we bypass the blessings staring us right in the face. The constant cycle built within our consumerist culture always pushing us forward to get more, buy more, as if what we have isn’t enough! Listen, let me be straight up here that I get pulled into buying that new snowboard, fancy pair of “breathable” new shorts, or anything else, really. However, I see through to the other side and want to bring this clarity here – that what we have, today, is more than enough. Hear me out…

I deeply felt this truth as I rode through the upper valley hills of beautiful Red River yesterday. My bike, generously gifted by my late father, had been collecting dust (and wayy too many spiders) in the garage. I felt the call to take it for a swing – then, birthed out of the ground like a spring wildflower – a spontaneous ride of gratitude. It was so simple – the wind running through my hair (I don’t have much, but still some)! – yet, I was connected at the special place of presence I feel so many struggle with these days. For example, the Texan tourists that come here in boatloads for Spring Break – I see those still eternally glued to their phones – as if it will provide happiness and joy when they (hopefully) came here to escape/refresh from that sticky-phone-spider web in the first place.

I’ve realized time and time again that this ultimate presence comes forth when we MOVE – and then the groove finds us! The little things begin to chirp and come into view – those that we miss when we are so focused on ‘what’s next’ or, simply distracted by the phone/screens. When I made it up the upper valley hill, I could hear the song-birds chirping, and see the ravens flying right above – feeling into my father, Steve, as the lone raven cawing to support his son below.

This all circled back to realizing how BLESSED we are – to simply be able to ride a bike! This technology that was built all-the-way back to 1817 – is still here – waiting for a ride! To be able to move, to see (and be) in the world freely – is truly a GIFT.

Listen, the point here is to: ride your bike. Whatever vehicle (yes, simply your legs can be a vehicle) gets you out into nature (or anywhere in the world) - then follow that energy. While you’re at it, put the phone down and really soak in whatever is in your view. Life goes pretty fast, let’s ride and not miss a damn thing – because the world is calling for us humans to come back to what we always were – alive in our bodies - fully, here and now.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say - God is stretching His arm further and farther than He ever has – because He feels that some (increasingly so) are beginning to lose touch with these little things that make us human. You may know a friend, or family member who is following this trend of isolation, disconnection, and “losing the spark.” It’s not just you recognizing this – I’m seeing this out in the world too. With this shift in the culture, God is uplifting (more than ever) those that seek love, gratitude, appreciation, and kindness found in the real world, and sharing this energy with our other fellow humans.

Weekly Prompt (Like Lifting Weights, but for your brain):

When recently have you taken a free-thinking walk, bike-ride, or any type of free-flowing movement forward, even when there was some level of internal resistance?

What energy birthed from this movement – any thoughts, ideas, or inspirations?

If so, what were they, and do they speak from a different angle than your “day-to-day” thoughts/ideas?

If then, what do you think is looking to be heard – and thus, integrated more into your life?
