Quick Meta-Sidenote: (this is what I mean by “I write to understand, thus you (as reader) and I (as writer) are the same” - Jubilee is actually an ancient word in Jewish/Catholic tradition dating all the way back to the bible! It means “special anniversary or a season of joyful celebration and renewal.”
How beautiful! (Now you know I didn’t just use that word because it rhymes hehe)!
Humanism
Before we dive in this week’s piece, you may notice I changed the landing page, to “The Human Movement.” From the affirmations from all of you reading and the greater world, it’s clear that this is a movement (or evolution), at that. It’s not a regional thing. It’s an everywhere, all around us, thing.
It is pretty damn clear about who’s really HERE, and who’s choosing to live in Peter Pan’s fairytale land (lost and not looking for answers). Notice how I say “choosing” – because now it is a choice of how we lead our lives. How exciting!! And yet, scary and difficult at the same time.
Hopefully this new title isn’t too overbearing – it is coming from the same genuine source that got this fire started. What a perfect time to introduce an idea that has been growing since the Winter, and aligns exactly with what this newsletter/movement/community (whatever you want to call it, still figuring that out)! Enjoy. Love you all.
This past Winter snuggled up in our cozy mountain cabin, Molly girly and I got into a deep conversation while sipping some warm New Mexican blend coffee – whilst pine trees peeking through our window panes - about the importance of “Humanism.” There are so many ideologies and “isms” today – so I thought – why not create my own and stamp it on the paper? The key difference here is that this “ism” is designed to bring us together, not tear us apart. It’s simply about channeling truth from the Source that defines every human – the soul, body, and mind. It is a calm call to put aside perceived differences, dividers, and isolators; to come home to truth that we all need each other now (more than ever) to thrive, in this torn-up world.
Look, we all now by now the culture isn’t going to do it, the government isn’t going to do it, technology isn’t going to do it – you get it – it’s up to each and every one of us. Understandably this is a very difficult task, maybe one of the most challenging in the modern era (or ever) – but what’s the alternative? To let our culture consume itself completely, lose the soul and beating heart of our people, and… to fade into black? No, this cannot happen. We must pivot (as humans have always done) to rebuild on what we know works. More on that “how to” in later issues…
Now, what led us to this newly-coined term? We were reading poems together written by Rumi – an Islamic spiritual leader that created a new sect called Sufism. Basically, this new branch of Islam is likely not what you think – it’s peaceful and tender – focusing on purifying the heart, direct experience with God, and divine love. Sounds pretty nice, right? Rumi was on ONE, certainly on another level at that time (almost 1000 years ago).
Quick sidenote: Reading excerpts from OG’s like Rumi, or Seneca (Roman era) – gifts humble reminders that we humans have inherent traits and characteristics built into our being – even when we ate everything with our hands and shit in a hole! “On the Shortness of Life” by Seneca is such a brilliant boots-on-the-ground look into Roman culture at the time – even more backing to this idea of “Humanism.” Great read if you like philosophy!
Any who, swinging back onto this organic idea-branch (not saying we’re the next Rumi, but hey – who says we can’t try?!) Humanism also acts as the bridge between the masculine and feminine energy forms (sun and moon; fire and water; order and chaos; yin and yang). It fundamentally accepts all those innate emotions, thoughts, aspirations, needs and wants that all of us have (of course, varying in design from person-to-person). It takes into account all these parts of us that make us human – whether female or male – doesn’t matter. Raw acceptance – bowing to truth – building from there. That’s Humanism.
This is the foundation that made us great and got us here in the first place! Throughout history we were always able to relate with our neighbors, seek to cultivate connections with others, and built rapport within our communities. Unfortunately, many of these foundational pillars are cracking at the base. Humanism is a renewed avenue (perspective) to counter dark forces seeping into our public spaces – bringing back the pure goodness of humanity through our intentional efforts setting aside our differences – coming together as one.
You know the saying - when one door closes, another opens. What can we build when our energies come together with love and light? Let’s be curious and courageous to find out.
